It
has long been known that prayer can
decrease the negative effects of
disease, speed recovery time, and
boost the effectiveness of medical
treatments. A belief in a Higher
Power and religious beliefs are also
thought to improve coping with and
provide comfort during illness.
Scientists are not only discovering
the mind-body connection to
longevity and health, but also
acknowledge the power of prayer and
spirituality with demonstrated
impact on health conditions such as
heart disease, hypertension, stroke,
colitis, uterine and other cancers,
and overall health status.
Being “spiritual” is something you
cannot escape because you are first
a spirit and then human. You came
into this dimension through the
mother vehicle fully equipped with
your mission on the planet Earth.
Spirituality has a multitude of
forms and can be practiced in many
ways. Prayer, for example, may be
silent or spoken out loud and can be
done alone or in groups (as in a
church, temple, or meditation
group). God will answer prayer
regardless of “religion.” In fact,
spirituality can be practiced
without affiliation with a formal
religion.
Since the beginning of recorded
history, every culture on this
planet developed structures of
religion and spirituality. Because
of earlier religions of ancient
Egypt and Greece, we have the
formation of more contemporary
religions such as Christianity,
Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, and
Buddhism.
In each culture, some form of
spirituality and prayer has served
as the established means of seeking
assistance from the Supreme Being or
beings perceived as powerful enough
to alter nature, health, and
disease. Different religions hold
different beliefs about a Supreme
Being. Your own personal
transformation, or spiritual
awakening will come with daily
practice of prayer and meditation.
Be patient and wait for your
“breakthrough” because it will
come.
Intercessory prayer (praying
for others) has been scientifically
proven to heal and uplift. One
study of coronary care patients, in
a random trial in California, found
that heart patients who were prayed
for, were less likely to need
antibiotics and had fewer
complications!
Prayer changes things, and a daily
dose of spirituality before you
start your day will change the way
you look at things.
